Paul Frederick Luttenegger, 87, of Burlington, died at 3:30 p.m. Friday, September 21, 2012, at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born March 15, 1925, in Burlington, he was the son of Henry George and Matilda Pauline Scheihing Luttenegger. On August 18, 1947, he married Ruth Irene Stratton in Burlington.

Mr. Luttenegger had been a farmer, retiring after 65 years. He was a Navy veteran, serving as a machinist mate 3rd class during World War II from 1943 to 1946.

He was a member of Crossroads Community Church, Farm Bureau and the VFW He enjoyed water skiing, boating, duck and pheasant hunting and ice skating. He played the harmonica, loved all aspects of farming and especially loved spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife; one son, Jonathon Paul Luttenegger of Burlington; three daughters, Joleen Gerst of Bloomington, Illinois, Rebecca Bang of Durham, Missouri, Laura Underwood of Burlington; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Thielen Funeral Home, with family to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

The funeral service for Mr. Luttenegger will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Thielen Funeral Home, with the Reverend Jason Unzicker officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in Kossuth Cemetery.

A time of food and fellowship will be held in the community room at Thielen Funeral Home following the burial.

A memorial has been established for Great River Hospice House.
