The Iowa City Press has the following tribute for the late Carrie Jarvis: “Old university friends of Miss Caroline Jarvis will read with sorrow of her death in Chicago. Miss Jarvis was a Burlington girl, whose life at S.U.I. was distinguished by brilliant work in literary circles, conspicuousness in social fields and athletic supremacy. She once earned, though she did not receive, a Carnegie medal, by rescuing a student who would have drowned in the Iowa had she not come to his rescue. (Burlington Evening Gazette, Burlington, IA, May 8, 1907)

The Last Sad Rites
Funeral of Miss Carlie Jarvis Was Held This Afternoon
The funeral of Miss Carlie Jarvis was held this afternoon at 3 o’clock from the residence on West avenue. The home was filled with sorrowing friends who knew and loved the young woman during her short life. The casket was banked with flowers, the gifts of those who only in this way could show the loss they now feel.

The service was impressive and was conducted by Rev. Albert A. Smith, of Lamoni, Iowa, formerly pastor of the Latter Day Saints church of Burlington. He paid a well-merited tribute to the deceased, in a short talk. The pall-bearers were F.H. Johnson of Chicago, Paul Craig of Independence, Mo., Wm. Schweers, Max Eggert, John A. Daries and Edw. Hirsch. The casket was borne to Aspen Grove cemetery where the remains were laid to rest in the family burial lot.

Fred Jarvis of Spokane, Wash., and Herbert Jarvis of Seattle, brothers of the deceased, arrived yesterday and attended the services. The following relatives and friends from out of town were also present: Rev. and Mrs. Albert A. Smith, of Lamoni, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. F.H. Johnson of Chicago, Paul Craig of Independence, Mo., Mr. and Mrs. H.A. Stebbins of Lamoni, Mr. and Mrs. W.K. Jarvins [Jarvis] of Chicago, Dr. Alice D. Tuttle of Chicago, and Miss Martha E. Smith of LaFayette, Ind. (Burlington Evening Gazette, May 8, 1907)
