John C. Fleming Dies Suddenly
Burlington-Sept. 15-J.C. Fleming dropped dead last evening while giving aid to a little patient. He never wanted to rust out, and it was his hope that he might die in the harness. He passed away without a trace of pain or suffering.
Dr. J.C. Fleming was one of a party which had assembled at the hospitable R.J. Cowles home last evening. He was in the best of spirits and apparently in the best of health. About 8 o'clock he was called to the J.J. Fleming home on South Hill where a grandchild of J.J. Fleming required his help. The made haste to reach his patient, looked after the child's needs and without the slightest warning, the silent messenger touched him and he passed on into the great beyond.

Dr. John C. Fleming was born in Huntington county, Pa., November 24, 1848 and completed his medical education in Jefferson Medical college, Philadelphia. He immediately entered upon the practice of his profession and remained in the east until 1877, when he came to Burlington. He gave the city and the county valuable service as city health officer and city physician, was local surgeon for the Burlington route for many years and built up a large practice to which he gave the closest attention. He was a member of the Des Moines county medical society and was respected among his colleagues as he was by the general public. In politics he was a democrat of sufficient independence to vote for the best man, regardless of party affiliation and his friends were to be found in all parties.

Dr. Fleming was married March 1894, to Miss Ida Weber, a native of Burlington, she survives the doctor with a son, John C. Jr.
