Martin Frederick Burgus, 85, of 11367 Stoney Hollow Road, Sperry, died at 9:36 a.m. Sunday, January 1, 1995, in the emergency room of Burlington Medical Center.

Born April 9, 1909, in Burlington, he was the son of Henry and Louise Dreckmeier Burgus. He married Edith Edmonds Burgus February 9, 1938, in Burlington.

He was a farmer and a salesman for Dockendorff Seed Corn, receiving an award from Querna for 25 years of sales work. He was a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife; one son, Gilbert Burgus of Corpus Christi, Texas; one sister, Ethel Dodge of Burlington; four grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a sister.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. tonight at Prugh's Chapel.

The funeral for Mr. Burgus will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the Bethany Lutheran Church, with the Reverend Carl Engstrom officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for Bethany Lutheran Church.
