Edith Lillian Burgus, 97, of Sperry, died at 11:03 p.m. Friday, December 30, 2005, at her home.

Born October 8, 1908, in Sperry, she was the daughter of Herbert and Vena Wunnenberg Edmonds. On February 9, 1938, she married Martin Frederick Burgus in Burlington. He died on January 1, 1995.

Mrs. Burgus was a homemaker and a farmer.

She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church. She was a 1926 graduate of Sperry High School and played on the girls basketball team that went to state. She enjoyed her church and indoor and outdoor gardening. She also enjoyed canning the fruits of her labor.

Survivors include one son, Gilbert Burgus of Corpus Christi, Texas; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, three brothers, and one sister.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Bethany Lutheran Church.

The funeral for Mrs. Burgus will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, at Bethany Lutheran Church, with the Reverend Carl Engstrom officiating. Interment will be in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for the Bethany Lutheran Church.
