GERTUDE HERMANN DEAD

Fell Victim to the White Plaque
Thursday Morning

Miss Gertrude Hermann, popular South Hill girl, the daughter of the late pioneer, Henry Hermann, passed away yesterday morning at the family home on South Hill, the old Senator Grimes residence. She fell a victim to the white plaque, after fighting for life for almost two years. Everything was done for her that medical science could suggest; she tried the climate of California without getting relief. She bore her trouble with Christian fortitude and calmly awaited the end.
Gertrude Hermann was born in this city March 21, 1881, and this city has always been her home. She attended the schools here and by her amiability and other good qualities she won many good friends, who will long mourn her early death. She was an earnest and active member of the Christian church and until she was weakened by the terrible disease; she had been an active worker in its behalf and was never so happy as when busying herself for her church. She is survived by the mother, four sisters: Mrs. Ed Rapp, of this city; Mrs. Calkins of Hollister, Cal., Daisy and Grace of this city; and five brother, Arthur, Oscar and Clarence of Newport, Ky., and Harry and Chester of Burlington.
