DEATH OF A DAY

WALTER HERMANN PASSED AWAY ABOUT 12.

Walter Hermann, son of Henry Hermann, the pioneer shoe dealer and a member of the firm at which his father is at the head, died at 12:10 last night at the family home, the old Grimes property, corner of Seventh and Pine streets.
Mr. Hermann had been suffering with consumption the past year, and his death had been expected to occur at any moment during the past few months. When the symptoms of the disease became unmistakable about a year ago, the invalid took a long trip, in the hope that a change of climate would be beneficial. Later he returned home, but soon left again, this time for Denver. From Colorado he went south, making a long stay in Las Vegas, N.M. About three months ago he came home again. His strength continued to fail, and his family and friends realized fully that he could not live much longer. In the last weeks of his life he was brave and cheerful, and bore his suffering and the knowledge of his real condition with true courage. Up to last Saturday he was able to be about, and even got down town occasionally. On Sunday he became much worse, and from that day until the time of his death he sank steadily.
Walter Hermann was born in Burlington, twenty-five years ago on the first of May, and lived in Burlington practically all his life. As a boy and as a man he was of a quiet disposition, dignified and gentlemanly. The funeral will be held at the residence at 2:30 o'clock tomorrow afternoon.
