George R. Ehret, 86, of Burlington, died at 12:30 AM Tuesday, February 10, 2015, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born September 5, 1928, in Burlington, he was the son of George Roy and Esther Mower Ehret. On May 17, 1953, he married Ethel Gertrude Cain in Burlington. She died on February 25, 2006.

George worked as an automotive parts and repair man for Buhmeyer Automotive, Drees Automotive, Archer Motors, and Deery Brothers, retiring in 1993.

He attended Burlington High School.

He was a U.S. Navy Veteran, serving during the WWII from May 4, 1946 until February 26, 1948.

He was a member of Burlington Eagles Aerie #150 and Burlington Moose Lodge 579. He enjoyed doing puzzles, boating, working on his rental properties, and tinkering around in the garage. He also loved traveling with his wife and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include one daughter, Marta Newberry of Burlington; two granddaughters, Jennifer (Ramon Gallegos) Rose and Jerrica Ehret, both of Burlington; one grandson, Jared Ehret of Burlington; three great-grandchildren, Skylor Rose, Bryce Rose, and Brayton Rose, all of Burlington; one sister, Margaret Huppenbauer of Galesburg, IL; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his wife he was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Jay Ehret, and two sisters, Ellen Lebeck and Maxine Martindale.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Thielen Crematory.

Visitation will be from 12:00 PM until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Thursday, February 12, 2015 at Thielen Funeral Home.

The memorial service for Mr. Ehret will be 10:00 AM Friday, February 13, 2015, at Thielen Funeral Home with Reverend Pamela Kranzler officiating and full military honors rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for Great River Hospice House.
