Phyllis J. Hobby, 86, of Burlington died at 11 a.m. Monday, July 9, 2012, at Bickford Cottage in Burlington.
Born Jan. 3, 1926, in Burlington, she was the daughter of George H. and Bertha L. Schmicker Martin. On July 17, 1948, she married Jack D. Harper in Burlington. He died March 29, 1983. On Dec. 7, 1996, she married Lewis B. Hobby in Burlington.
Mrs. Hobby worked in the office at J.I. Case Co. from 1950 to 1959, was a clerk for 10 years in the Des Moines County Auditor's office and worked in the office at Aspen Grove Cemetery.
She graduated from St. Paul's High School in Burlington in 1943.
She was a member of St. Luke's United Church of Christ and its Ruth Circle, Good Samaritan and Women's Fellowship, where she served as secretary and treasurer. She was also a member of Moose Lodge Auxiliary.
Survivors include her husband; two step daughters, Theda Olson of Carman, Ill., and Debbie Thye of Burlington; one grandchild; three step grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Besides her first husband, she was preceded in death by one son, her parents, one brother and one sister.
Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. today at St. Luke's United Church of Christ in Burlington, where family will receive friends.
The funeral for Mrs. Hobby will be at 2 p.m. today at St. Luke's United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Mark Schowalter officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington. A luncheon will be at the church following burial.
A memorial has been established for St. Luke's United Church of Christ.
Lunning Chapel in Burlington is in charge of arrangements.
