Mrs. Arlene Mae Fisher Huston, 92, of Burlington died at 11:54 a.m. Thursday, February 5, 2015, at Great River Medical Center.
Born December 6, 1922 at St. Francis Hospital in Burlington, she was the daughter of Oscar J. and Marle (Schreiber) Fisher. On August 31, 1946 she married George C. Huston in Davenport. He preceded her in death on March 18, 1977. Her mother passed when she was only two years old. She was raised by her grandparents Charles and Julia Fisher.
Mrs. Huston was a 1940 graduate of Burlington High School and attended two years of college at Georgia State College for Women. She was a Navy veteran of World War II. Mrs. Huston worked for the Lagomarcino Grupe and then as a clerk in the Finance Department of City Hall in Burlington for 30 years, she retired July 1, 1985.
She was a member of Zion United Church of Christ, American Legion, WAVES National, R.S.V.P. and a lifetime member of V.F.W. Auxiliary Post 10102. She enjoyed needlepoint, playing cards and BINGO.
Survivors include two daughters, Linda Sue (Robert) Kemp of West Burlington and Nancy Lee Kyker of Centralia, Illinois; four grandchildren; Kelly Jo Kemp (Damen) Sharp of Burlington, Robert M. (Jennifer) Kemp of Ankeny, Patrick Warren Kyker of Mt. Vernon, IL, and Jeff (Lori) Kyker of Maryland Heights, MO; and six great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and two step brothers.
There will be no formal funeral services for Mrs. Huston. According to her wishes, cremation has been entrusted to Lunning Chapel. Inurnment will be held at a later date in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
