Walter E. Huddleston, 94, of Burlington, died Saturday, Jan. 10, 2015, at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.
Born May 16, 1920, in Flint, Mich., he was the son of William and Clara Belle Beaton Huddleston. On Sept. 12, 1943, he married Mary Mercer in Newport, R.I.
Mr. Huddleston was a line one supervisor with Iowa Army Ammunition Plant before transferring to Pantex facility in Amarillo, Texas.
He graduated from Benzie County Schools in Michigan. After retirement, he and his wife moved to North Carolina before returning to Burlington.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He enjoyed repairing clocks, gardening, hunting and fishing, traveling with his wife and being with his family.
He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church and a 50 year member of New London Masonic Lodge AF & AM #28.
Besides his wife, survivors include one daughter, Mary Schwartz, of Indianapolis, Ind.; one son, Robert Huddleston of Mount Union; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; three sisters and two brothers.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, one brother and three sisters.
Visitation will begin at noon Tuesday at Elliott Chapel with family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m.
A celebration of life for Mr. Huddelston will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel with Pastor Wayne Weissenbuehler officiating. Military rites will be conducted by Henry County Honor Guard immediately following the service. Private family graveside services and burial will be Wednesday in Maple Hills Cemetery, rural Birmingham.
A memorial has been established for Alzheimer's Research and Faith Lutheran Church.
