Mrs. Joy Eileen Smith, 85, of West Burlington died at 11:15 p.m. Thursday, January 8, 2015, at Great River Medical Center - Klein Center.
Born July 29, 1929 in Keokuk, she was the daughter of Henry Franklin and Stella Mae (Carder) Davis. On January 6, 1952 she married Ralph Smith in Memphis, Missouri. He preceded her in death in February of 1990.
Mrs. Smith was a graduate of Granger (Missouri) High School. She taught school in a country school, and also worked at the River Plant in Keokuk, I.A.A.P., Midwest Biscuit Company, All Seasons Child Care and then 18 years at Hope Haven.
Mrs. Smith was a member of West Burlington United Methodist Church and enjoyed working puzzles, watching TV and reading.
Survivors include one son, Larry Smith of Burlington; one daughter, Connie (Mark) Smith of Tennessee; seven grandchildren; and four great grandchildren and one on the way.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Cheryl Hightower, three half-brothers and two half-sisters.
The funeral service for Mrs. Smith will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 14th at Lunning Chapel. The Rev. David Bracht-Wagner will officiate. Interment will be held in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 13th in Lunning Chapel.
A memorial has been established for Hope Haven and West Burlington United Methodist Church.
