Everett H. Oetken, 89, of 12754 Irish Ridge Road, Burlington, died at 9:35 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 7, 1999, at Burlington Medical Center.
Born Feb. 28, 1910, at rural Burlington, he was the son of Henry F. and Laura Reif Oetken. He married Pearl L. Wischmeier June 20, 1942, in Burlington.
Mr. Oetken, along with his cousin, Wilbur Siegel, started Siegel's Auto Service in 1934. He farmed until the age of 82 and helped on the farm until the fall of 1999. He also raised cattle and hogs.
He was a 77-plus year member of the Oak Street Baptist Church, previously serving as deacon, trustee and on the finance committee. He was an active member of the Chapel Bible Class and was secretary of Hunter School.
He enjoyed farming, travel, flowers, birds and vegetable gardening.
Survivors include his wife; one son, James Oetken of St. Mary's, Pa.; three daughters, Rhonda Pfadenhauer and Kathleen Salisbury, both of Burlington, and Loretta Carlo of Dallas, Texas; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Lawrence Oetken of Sun City, Ariz.; one sister, Fern Helt of New London; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.
Friends may call after noon Friday, with the family receiving friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Lunning Chapel.
The funeral for Mr. Oetken will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Oak Street Baptist Church, with the Rev. Ronald Presley officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
A memorial has been established for Oak Street Baptist Church.
