Our cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt, Rhoda Murlie Bresch, left this life peacefully on Wednesday, December 24, 2014 at age 91, in Burlington, Iowa.
Rhoda was born on January 3, 1923 in Mount Union, Iowa to Harrie and Etta (Siekman) Vollmer. Rhoda graduated from Burlington High School in 1943 and later attended the Open Bible College in Des Moines, Iowa. She married Edward Weldon Bresch on April 4, 1947. She and her husband settled in the Burlington area shortly after their marriage. They were married for 45 years before Edward died August 15, 1992.
Rhoda was a faithful member of First Assembly of God Church. She had a deep love for her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and for her family. She was very active in her church, serving as a greeter, working with the Missionettes (3-5 years old) and helping with funeral luncheons. She loved to travel and camp with her family and garden. During the time Edward served as Vice Commander at the local VFW Post, Rhoda proudly served as the Assistant Chaplain. Rhoda's love for sewing and crocheting was evident, as she made over 1,000 ditty bags and lap robes for hospitalized veterans. She was also known for the colorful butterflies she crocheted.
Rhoda is preceded in death by her husband, Edward; her parents; two brothers, Dorain Vollmer and Donald Vollmer; and one grandson, Billy Jo Sturms. She is survived by her children: Michael (Jo Anne) Bresch of Ottumwa, Iowa and their family, Paul Bresch of Burlington, Iowa, and twin daughters, Billie (Roy) Ramey of Clinton, Utah, and their son, and Bobbie (Carl) Brooks of Burlington, and their family. Rhoda will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Her family wishes to express gratitude to the staff of the Burlington Care Center for the loving care they provided for Rhoda.
The family will receive friends from 2 until 4 p.m. Sunday, December 28th, at Lunning Chapel.
The funeral service for Rhoda will be 10 a.m. Monday, December 29th, at First Assembly of God Church of Burlington. Interment will be in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery.
A memorial has been established for the V.F.W. Post 10102 Auxiliary.
