Melvin Jack Mehaffy, 59, of Danville, died 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 5, 1988, at Burlington Medical Center. Born April 29, 1929, in Mediapolis, he was the son of Robert and Gertrude Lions (sic) Mehaffy. He married Wanda Anderson August 13,1955, in New London.

He was a farmer and had been employed with Mason & Hanger-Silas Mason Company Incorporated for 20 years.

He was a U.S. veteran of the Korean conflict. He was of the Protestant faith. Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Debbie (John) Koch, Dallas City, Illinois, and Mrs. Kathy (Delmer) Jacob, Stronghurst, Illinois; six sons, Bob Mehaffy, New London, Brad Mehaffy, Fort Madison, and Dwayne Mehaffy, Brian Mehaffy, Kevin Mehaffy and Alan Mehaffy, all of Danville; his mother, Danville; one brother, Rodney Mehaffy, Mount Pleasant; three sisters, Mrs. Jean (Wilbur) Lucas, West Burlington, Mrs. Sandy (Gregg) Richard, Streamwood, Illinois, and Mrs. Meredith Schroder, New London; and eight grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Elliott Chapel, New London.

The service for Mr. Mehaffy will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Harmony Bible Church, Danville, with the Reverend Kirk Johnston officiating. Burial with military rites by the New London VFW will be in Long Creek Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for the Hope Haven Area Development Center.
