Charles Redfern Taken By Death

New London (IA) -- Charles Redfern, 87, passed away Monday afternoon at 1:20 at the Burlington hospital where he had been a medical patient the past four days.

Charles, son of Jane (Lee) and John Redfern, was born five miles northeast of New London, February 17, 1860. He grew to manhood on this farm which he still owns, and which has been in the Redfern family for over 100 years. Mr. Redfern attended Elliott's business college in Burlington, and on January 7, 1903, at Burlington he married Carrie Gittings. They moved to the Redfern farm where they lived until they retired to New London a few years ago.

Besides his wife, he is survied by a son, Charles Samuel Redfern and a daughter, Ruth Redfern Ogg, both of New London; a brother, C. Sam Redfern of Los Angeles, California. Three granddaughters, Carra Dianne Redfern and Linda Jane Redfern, both of New London, and Mrs. Glen Lange of Des Moines, also survive.

Funeral service will be held Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. from Elliott Chapel in New London with Dr. F. W. Eastwood, pastor of the local Presbyterian church, in charge. Burial will be in Ferrel cemetery northeast of New London.
