Dorothy "Rusty" Abel, 57, of rural Mediapolis, died at 1 p.m. Friday, February 6 (1987), at University Hospitals, Iowa City.

Mrs. Abel was born September 18, 1929, in Burlington to Chester and Ellen Thomas Redfern. She married Harold Abel on February 7, 1953, in Burlington.

She was a homemaker, a graduate of Burlington Junior College, a member of the Burlington Medical Center Auxiliary and St. Mary's Catholic Church in Dodgeville.

Surviving are her husband; a daughter, Nancy Hitchcock, Burlington; two sons, Michael, rural Sperry, and Brian, rural Mediapolis.

A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today at the Fry Chapel in Mediapolis with visitation following at 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Reverend Phil Cardenzana officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A memorial has been established with the BMC Auxiliary for the hospital's cancer unit.
