Mary Ann Walker was born in Des Moines county, Iowa, July 19, 1849. This was her home until her marriage to James W. Young, November 5, 1867. They moved to Henry county, where they made their home until the spring of 1897, when they moved into New London, April 26, 1919. Mrs. Young answered the call of her Lord and went to her reward in heaven.

Eight children were born to this worthy couple, three of whom preceded the mother in death. The surviving ones are: Belle Anderson, Millie Chrissinger, Maggie Mathews and Pearl Young, of Henry county, Iowa; Frank Young of Grover, Colorado, who mourn the loss of a loving mother. Beside these, are the bereaved husband, two brothers, Miles Walker and Jesse Walker. Three sisters, Clarinda Wickhart of Des Moines, Louisa Howe and Luthera Huffman of Creston, Iowa. Eighteen grandchildren, three great grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends. She was a faithful wife, an affectionate mother, a true Christian and a loving friend.

Mrs. Young was converted at the age of 15 years and joined the Baptist church at Kingston. Iowa; Later she united with the M.. E. church at Trinity, transferring her membership to New London. She was a faithful member. During the past year she has been confined to her home. Her death was due to heart trouble. The children were all able to be present at the last. The funeral services were held at the family home Monday afternoon, conducted by Reverend Coggshall, her pastor, assisted by Reverend T. S. Pool. Interment was in Burge cemetery
