Louis Higdon Jr., 74, of Burlington, died at 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 4, 1998, at his home.

Born August 9, 1923, in Burlington, he was the son of Louis and Rose Jenkins Higdon. On October 28, 1943, he married Fern J. Gulick in Kahoka, Missouri. She died August 17, 1989.

Mr. Higdon was a carpenter in the Burlington area for many years.

He was a member of Moose Lodge No. 579 of Burlington and played steel guitar in his local band throughout the Burlington area. He was of the Protestant faith.

Survivors include two sons, Louis E. Higdon of Bullhead, Arizona, and Larry C. Higdon of Las Vegas; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; his mother, Verna Higdon of West Burlington; five sisters, Janet Gulick of Alton, Illinois, Betty McGrath of Colona, Dorothy Mills of Salem, Shirley Elmore of Queen Creek, Arizona, and Kay Bergthold of West Burlington; seven brothers, Glen Higdon of Waterloo, Earl Higdon of Douds, Jim Higdon of West Burlington, Billy Higdon of Springfield, Virginia, Stanley Higdon of Wever, Bob Higdon of New London and Gary Higdon of Georgia; and companion, Joy E. Smith of Burlington.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

Friends may call after 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. Friday at Lunning Chapel. There will be no family visitation.

The graveside funeral for Mr. Higdon will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Burlington Memorial Cemetery, Burlington, with the Reverend Traverce Harrison officiating.
