Maurice A. Smith Sr., age 65 of Burlington passed away at 12:53 PM Thursday, January 31, 2002 at the Great River Medical Center, West Burlington.

Born December 14, 1936 in Perry, IA he was the son of John Cedric and Sarah Olive Van Pelt Smith. He married Norma Jean Rice on May 12, 1956 in Morrison, IL.

Mr. Smith was a graduate of Morrison High School in Morrison, IL. He retired from General Electric in 1999. He owned Mauries Ten Pin Tap for nine years. He enjoyed bowling, playing pool, fishing, hunting and the outdoors. He was a longtime blood donor and an organ donor. He especially loved spending time with his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife, Norma, his mother, Sarah; two sons, Maurice (Anne) Smith Jr. of Gladstone, IL and Marty (Laurie) Smith of Burlington; two daughters, Bobbie (Bob) Scovern of West Burlington and Cheryl (Dan) Noble of Burlington; eight grandchildren; one sister, Beverly (Jim) Starr of Burlington; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, one brother, Darwin, and one grandson, Darrin.

Upon the request of Mr. Smith, his body has been cremated and there will be no services.
