Donald "Woody" David Strawhacker, 78, of Burlington, formerly of Oakville, died Thursday, February 19, 2004, at his home.
Born February 14, 1926, in Oakville, he was the son of Mark C. and Lucille Abbott Strawhacker. He was previously married to Doris Hartman Reiman.
Mr. Strawhacker farmed for many years in the Oakville area. He also drove semi-trailer trucks.
He was a 1944 graduate of Oakville High School. He regularly attended Asbury United Methodist Church in Burlington. He was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie No. 150, where he was serving his seventh year as president. He previously was an honorary state vice president. He enjoyed the Iowa Hawkeyes and was an avid Cubs fan. He also enjoyed dancing and traveling.
Survivors include his companion, Maxine Warner of Burlington; one son, Craig D. Strawhacker of Oakville; one daughter, Brenda Strawhacker of Citrus Springs, Florida; one stepson, Wendell Reiman of Burlington; two grandchildren; one great-grandson; six step-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; four sisters, Lois Foor of Wapello, Joann Wehner of Independence, Jean Hughes of Arab, Alabama, and Marilyn Mintun of Burlington; and two brothers, Russell Strawhacker of Branson, Missouri, and Marion Strawhacker of Fort Madison.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one stepdaughter and three brothers.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
The funeral for Mr. Strawhacker will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Lunning Chapel, with the Reverend Richard Purcell officiating. Burial will be in Edwards Cemetery in Oakville.
A memorial has been established for the Fraternal Order of Eagles Diabetes and Heart Fund.
