Heinrich "Mac" Macans Sr. 68, of West Burlington, Iowa, died at 3:20 p.m. Friday, January 16, 2004, at Genesis East Hospital in Davenport, Iowa.

Born October 25, 1935, in Daugopils, Latvia, he was the son of Stanislaws and Marija Ciss Macans. On April 22, 1960, he married Marie Morvace-Borowski in Chicago, Illinois.

Mr. Macans worked as a truck driver for WW Transport, Ideal Ready Mix, and Sharkey Transportation in Quincly, Illinois.

He served in the U.S. Marines.

He was a member of SS. Mary and Patrick Catholic Church.

He enjoyed playing blackjack and was a Chicago Bears and Cubs fan.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, George Anthony Macans of Everett, Washington, James Allen Macans of Burlington and Heinrich Albert Macans Jr. of West Burlington; seven grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; one niece; and two nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a broher and a grandson.

Visitation will begin at 8 a.m. Tuesday at Prugh's Chapel. The family wil receive friends between 6 and 8 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel. Music will be provided for the servie by the Des Moines County Resurrection Choir.

The funeral for Mr. Macans will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at SS. Mary and Patrick Catholic Church in West Burlington, Iowa with the Rev. Gerald Stouvenel officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Keokuk National Cemetery, Keokuk, Iowa.

A memorial has been established for local diabetes research.
