James "Jim" Michael Kane, 71, of Burlington, died at 11:49 AM Sunday, October 12, 2014, at his home.

Born February 19, 1943, in Burlington he was the son of Francis Peter and Maxine Amanda Lehmann Kane. On May 18, 1967, he married Evelyn Lee Genn in Muscatine.

He grew up in Burlington and attended Burlington Notre Dame High School.

He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran, on alert during the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962. He was a part of the Strategic Air Command, working on B-52's and C-130's. After the service, he worked at Burlington Bowl for 2 years. Jim was a machine repairer at J.I. Case Co. He retired February 20, 2003 after 35 years.

He was a member of UAW Local 807, I.O.P. Gun Club, Des Moines County Conservation, and of the Catholic faith. He enjoyed hunting, target shooting, archery, and being a gun smith. He also participated in numerous bowling leagues.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn of Burlington; one son, Robert J. Kane of Burlington; two daughters, Michelle L. (Jim) Zart of Burlington and Teresa M. (Jim) Boecker of Montrose; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Lou (Terry) O'Brien of Burlington; and several nieces and nephews..

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Dennis Kane; and two infant sons.

Visitation will be from noon until 8:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Wednesday, October 15, 2014, at Thielen Funeral Home.

After the visitation, cremation will be entrusted to the care of Thielen Crematory.

A memorial has been established to Great River Hospice.
