Mr. Eugene "Gene" H. Luers, 89, of West Burlington died at 12:55 a.m. Friday, October 10, 2014, at Blair House.
Born June 28, 1925 in Des Moines County, he was the son of Henry Richard and Clara Marie (Moehle) Luers. On October 10, 1948 he married Zada Sue Brewer in Van Buren, Arkansas. She preceded him in death on August 17, 2004.
Mr. Luers was a railroad conductor at CB&Q, Burlington Route, Burlington Northern and Amtrak for 42 years, retiring in 1991. He was the oldest long time active member of Concordia Lutheran Church and a member United Transportation Union.
Survivors include five daughters, Rebecca (James) McKee of Burlington, Robin (Duane) Wyatt of Bellevue, Nebraska, and Regenia (David) Rothlauf, Renee Martin and Rhonda (Timothy) Albin all of West Burlington; 11 grandchildren, Ruth (Matthew) Little, Philip McKee, Erin Aufdemberge, Benjamin Wyatt, Eileen Wyatt (Kyle) Bahr, Robert Eugene (Krista) Luers, Jeremy Vance, David Martin, Elizabeth Martin, Lynsey Albin and Leia Albin; 9 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and two sisters.
Friends may call from noon until 6 p.m. Wednesday, October 15th, at Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends from 4 until 6 p.m.
The funeral service for Mr. Luers will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 16th, at Lunning Chapel with Pastor Christopher Roepke officiating. Interment will be in Latty Cemetery, north rural Burlington.
A memorial has been established for Concordia Lutheran Church.
