Ellis Lee Laughlin, 91, of Burlington, died at 6:17 PM, Thursday, October 2, 2014, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born January 26, 1923, in Henry County, IA, he was the son of Delbert T. and Genevieve Creasp Laughlin. On June 12, 1946, he married Betty Jean Walker in Des Moines County, IA.

Ellis worked at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant for 25 years and General Electric for 13 years.

He was a 1943 graduate of Danville High School.

He served in the infantry with the U.S. Army during World War II in the South Pacific. He received a Purple Heart.

He was a member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), and a former member of Long Creek United Methodist Church. He was a volunteer fireman with the Danville Fire Department. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan. He enjoyed his dog and cat, camping, trading cars, and especially visiting his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Survivors include wife, Betty; son, Larry (Diane) Laughlin of Beaufort, SC, daughter, Linda (Matt) Stanton of Russell, MN, twin sons, Steve Laughlin and Dennis (Ginny) Laughlin both of Burlington; three grandchildren, Crystal (Kevin) Rud, Mindy (John) Sutak, Levi Patton, four great-grandchildren, Dryden, Kailey, Marley, and Jaxson Ellis; one brother, Richard (Ruth) Laughlin of Omaha, NE; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Elizabeth Laughlin, one brother, Maurice Laughlin, two grandchildren, Christopher and Jennifer Stanton.

Visitation will be from 12:00 PM until 8:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Sunday, October 5, 2014, at Thielen Funeral Home.

The funeral service for Mr. Laughlin will be 1:30 PM Monday, October 6, 2014, at Thielen Funeral Home with Reverend David J. Yonker officiating. Burial will be in Long Creek Cemetery with full military honors rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard.

Memorials have been established for the Alzheimer's Association and the Great River Hospice House.
