Margaret Elizabeth Ertz Cullen, 82, of Newark, passed away Thursday, January 9, 2014, in Newark.
Born October 16, 1931, in Burlington, she was the daughter of the late Frederick R. Ertz and Helen K. Logan Ertz. On September 6, 1952, she married Herschel Leland "Lee" Cullen in St. Paul's Catholic Church in Burlington. He died September 30, 2001.
Margaret was a devoted homemaker and exceptional caretaker to her family.
Deeply rooted in her faith, Margaret was a parishioner of Holy Angels, R.C. Church for 40 years, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister and as the Post Canna director. She was also a member of the church's choir and Environmental Committee. Active in her community, Margaret gave of her time and talents for over 35 years as a volunteer with Meals on Wheels and for 9 years with Read Aloud Delaware. She enjoyed the time she spent at the Newark Senior Center where she was a longtime member. Margaret had a special love and appreciation for both music and dance. Above all else, she will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.
Survivors include two sons, Michael L. (Susan) Cullen of Chesterfield, VA, and Christopher L. (Tara) Cullen of Bradfordwoods, PA; two daughters, Cathy A. Coomes of Hockessin, DE, and Heather (D. Cameron) DeHeer of Newark, DE; seven grandchildren, Michelle, Stephen, Kellie, Lindsay, Jennifer, Matthew, and Ryan; three great-grandchildren, Alex, Warren, and Katherine; and one brother, John Ertz of Asheville, NC.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, Herschel "Lee" Cullen, and four brothers, Paul Ertz, Roy Ertz, Eugene "Bill" Ertz, and Warren Ertz.
Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Thielen Crematory.
Visitation will be from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM Sunday, October 12, 2014 at Thielen Funeral Home where the family will receive friends.
The memorial service for Mrs. Cullen will be 2:00 pm Sunday, October 12, 2014, at Thielen Funeral Home with Rev. Father Marty Goetz officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery at 9:00 AM Monday, October 13, 2014. A time of food and fellowship will be held in the Thielen community room following the service.
