Loyd G. Crawley, 78, formerly of Burlington, died at 855 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 1, 1996, at West Point Care Center in West Point.
Born Aug. 18, 1918, in Jonesboro, La., he was the son of George and Nena Walker Crawley. On Oct. 3, 1946, he married Mary A. Pfieffer in Randolph Field, Texas.
Mr. Crawley was a World War II Air Force veteran with distinguished service as a flying officer with the 6th Bombardment Group, 20th Air Force, participating in B29 raids over mainland Japan. He was awarded the distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters and a Purple Heart. He was a manager at Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown, where he had a long career working on defense contracts.
He served his community as a Boy Scout leader and Little League team manager. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Michael Crawley of Seneca, S.C.; two grandchildren; one sister, Helen Morgan of Duncan, Okla.; one brother, Nelson Crawley of Burkburnett, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends one hour prior to service Thursday, at Prugh's Chapel.
The funeral for Mr. Crawley will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Prugh's Chapel, with the Rev. David Rogula officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery with full military rites by VFW Post 10102.
A memorial has been established for the American Lung Association.
