Dolores Lorraine “Grandma De” Ross, 76, of Burlington, Iowa, died at Morning Sun Care Center, Morning Sun, Iowa, on Friday morning, September 19, 2014.

She was born on November 7, 1937 in Jefferson, Iowa, to Thomas F. and Helen Z. Smith Dorrian. In 1960 Dolores married Bennie L. Hinds, they later divorced. Dolores then spent several loving years with Lowell “Smokey” Nystrum. Later Dolores married Walter H. Ross.

Dolores was a homemaker for 19 years, assistant manager at Kum & Go, and worked computers/payroll for DICO Corporation in Des Moines, IA. She had 31 years of community service, helping many people to restart their lives. She volunteered at the local hospital, Klein's, Friends of the Library and the Moose Lodge. For 33 years Dolores was an AA sponsor helping others.

She is survived by one son, Bradford (Carrie Ann) Hinds of Burlington, IA; daughter, LeAnn (Curt) Blankenburg of Lawton, IA; step-son, Walter M. Ross of Jacksonville, FL; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three brothers, Donald Dorrian of Waukee, IA, John Dorrian of West Des Moines, IA, and Richard Dorrian of Des Moines, IA.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her significant other, "Smokey", husband, Walter Ross; son, Kenneth Hinds; grandson, Blake “Bo” Hinds, sister, Beverly Reeves and brother, Thomas Dorrian Jr.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, October 11, 2014 at 6:30 p.m. at the Port of Burlington (South end) Fr. Marty Geotz will officiate. Following the service a time of food and celebration will be hosted by Grandma De's children. Cremation has been entrusted to Prugh Funeral Service.
