Cleo Alice Gerst, 93, formerly of Mediapolis, died Saturday, Jan. 21, 2012, at Blair House Nursing & Rehab in Burlington.

Born June 12, 1918, in rural Morning Sun, she was the daughter of Russell and Alice Cover Mehaffy. On June 12, 1937, she married Herbert "Dick" Gerst in Kingston. He died Dec. 19, 2007.

Mrs. Gerst was a homemaker and farmed with her husband in rural Sperry from 1946 to 1965. They retired and moved to Mediapolis. She graduated from the former Huron School in 1937. She was a member of Oakville Apostolic Christian Church. She enjoyed reading and word search puzzles.

Survivors include three sons, Herbert "Dick" Gerst of Burlington, Randy Gerst of Sperry and James Gerst of Dunlap, Ill.; three daughters, Sara "Sally" Schrock of Mediapolis, Connie Bender of Salisbury, N.C., and Annette Brown of Brentwood, Tenn.; 19 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; many great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ronald Mehaffy of Burlington and Donald Mehaffy of Danville; and two sisters, Grace Mellinger of Burlington and Faye Fraise of West Point.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, her parents, one brother and one sister.

Burial will be in Oakville Apostolic Christian Church Cemetery.
