Joseph E. "Boomer" Clark, Sr., 90, of West Burlington, died at 10:55 PM Thursday, November 6, 2014, at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.
Born July 4, 1924, in Burlington, he was the son of Charles E. and Gladys E. Darrah Clark. On May 21, 1950, he married Jane C. Moyner in Burlington. They loved each other deeply and were best friends.
Joe worked several jobs including bread delivery, trucking, and 42 years for the Burlington Northern Railroad.
He graduated from Burlington High School.
He was a member of First United Church of Christ and the United States Railroad Retirement. He enjoyed hunting, trout fishing, mushroom hunting, and spending time with his grandchildren. He also liked playing with his special pets, picking raspberries, completing puzzles, and word searches.
Survivors include wife, Jane C. Clark of West Burlington; three daughters, Liz (John) Modrell of Sperry, Carol (Richard) Oglesby of Lowell, and Jane (Kevin) Rechkemmer of West Burlington; one son, Joe Clark, Jr. of Burlington; one daughter-in-law, Nancy Clark of West Burlington; eight grandchildren including his granddaughter, Amanda (Bob) Lessner, who shared special times with him; ten great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Charles E. Clark II.
Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Thielen Crematory.
Visitation will be from 9:30 AM until 10:30 AM with the family to receive friends Monday, November 10, 2014 at Thielen Funeral Home.
The Celebration of Life for Mr. Clark will be 10:30 AM Monday, November 10, 2014, at Thielen Funeral Home with Reverend Terry Vance officiating. A time of food and fellowship will be held in the community room at Thielen Funeral Home following the service.
A memorial has been established for the Des Moines County Humane Society.
