Bonnie Baker, 84, passed away March 29, surrounded by her children and friends at the Benton House of Less Summit, Missouri. Bonnie was born October 27, 1929 in Abingdon Virginia to James Vance and Bonnie (Keller) Lyon.
She attended Lees-McRae College in North Carolina for two years studying Religious Education. She married Eugene Baker October 8, 1955 in Paducah Kentucky. He died December 13, 2005. She and her husband moved to Danville, Iowa in 1965. Bonnie worked as a secretary in the Purchasing Department at Mason and Hanger in Middletown, Iowa for 24 years retiring in 1991.
She was a long time member of the Danville United Methodist Church most recently transferring to the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church in Pleasant Hill, MO. In Danville, Bonnie was a Member of the Order of Eastern Star, the Entre Nous Club as well as being active in many facets of the Danville Methodist Church which she loved dearly.
Bonnie loved others and always was there when needed. Her sense of humor always brightened faces and endeared her to others. In 2006 she moved to Pleasant Hill Missouri to be near her youngest grandchildren.
She is survived by daughter Patricia Baranov of Burlington, son Eugene Lawrence Baker Jr. also of Burlington and Joe Baker of Pleasant Hill Missouri. Bonnie treasured her daughter's in-law Diane and Sandy, grandchildren Robin, Travis, Jaime, Chris, Steve and Sarah as well as her 4 great grandchildren; she is survived by two sisters Lula Lee Ball of Gallatin, Tennessee and Shirley Pritchard of Reading PA; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, one sister Isabelle Johnson, and two Brothers, Byrd Lyon and James Vance Lyon Jr.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, April 5, 2014 at Elliott Chapel, New London. Pastor Jerry Rigdon will officiate. Interment will be in Jaggar Cemetery, rural Danville. Visitation will begin after 9:00 AM Saturday morning with the family receiving friends for one hour prior to the service. A memorial has been established to the Alzheimer's Association.
