R. A. CARTER, RESIDENT HERE,61 YEARS, DEAD

SUCCUMBS EARLY YESTERDAY AFTERNOON FOLLOWING APPENDICITIS OPERATION FRIDAY.

Richard A. Carter, lifelong resident of Burlington, died at Burlington hospital yesterday afternoon at 12:30 o'clock, having failed to rally from an operation for appendicitis last Friday. He was 61 years old.
Mr. Carter had been actively connected with the Walnut Street Baptist church for the last forty-five years, having been a deacon for several years and treasurer at the time of his death.
He was born in Burlington January 12(?), 1864, the son of David Carter who came to this county from England. Mr. Carter was a machinist having learned his trade at the West Burlington shops. Later he was employed at the Murray Iron Works and up until his recent illness worked at the Northwestern stamping company. He had made his home with his brother-in-law, O R. Bershee, 1212 South Tenth street since 1894.
Mr. Carter was never married and leaves only one sister, Mrs. O. R. Bershee of Burlington. He was a member of the Modern Woodmen of America.
Funeral services will be held from the Walnut Street Baptist Church Thursday morning at 10 o'clock. The body will remain at Prugh's chapel from 9:30 Thursday morning. Rev. T.S. Bovell(?) will conduct the services at the church. Burial will be in Aspen Grove cemetery.
