Mary Elizabeth Barngrover, 89, of West Burlington, died at 1:48 PM Thursday, July 17, 2014, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington. Born January 29, 1925, in Winfield, IA, she was the daughter of Merle F. and Dorothy Opal McCandless Heldt. Survivors include son, Terry (Roberta) Barngrover of Burlington; one daughter, Virginia Thompson of Albuquerque, NM; three grandchildren, Jason (Renee) Barngrover of Des Moines, Ryan (Stephanie) Barngrover of Burlington, and Wendee Thompson of Albuquerque, NM; and two great-grandchildren, Miya Barngrover and Mason Barngrover both of Burlington. She was preceded in death by her parents. Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Thielen Crematory. A private family service will be held at a later date. Memorials have been established for Great River Hospice House and Special Needs Foundation of Des Moines County.
