Angela Ann Morgan Adams, 72, of Burlington, Iowa, died at 6:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 13, at Great River Hospice in West Burlington, Iowa.
Born on October 1, 1942, in Burlington, Iowa, she was the daughter of Glen Paul and Helen Catherine Bresch Morgan. She married Jerry Ray Adams on August 15, 1971, in Burlington, Iowa. He died on April 27, 2014.
Angela graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1960, attended Southeastern Community College, and went on to earn her Bachelor’s Degree from Iowa Wesleyan College. Later she received her Master of Arts Degree from the University of Iowa. She also did graduate studies in educational administration.She was an educator in the Burlington private and public school systems for over 35 years, teaching special education and Spanish to secondary school students. Following her retirement, Angela continued her dedication to education as a substitute teacher throughout the area.
Prior to her teaching career, Angela was employed in a number of jobs while putting herself through college. She worked for Murray Iron Works in Burlington, the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown, and the CIA in Washington, D.C. Angela ("Mrs. A") was known as a tough teacher but also one who had a great sense of humor. She especially loved teaching Spanish and exploring other foreign languages. She enjoyed traveling abroad as well as journeying across the USA. She was also involved in politics, serving as the Republican candidate for the office of County Recorder in the 1970s.
Angela enjoyed spending time with her husband and other family. She was a member of the Burlington Golf Club and the Shakespeare Club. She did volunteer work for the City of Burlington and served on the City Planning Commission. She was also an avid art enthusiast and bridge player. She especially enjoyed the Snake Alley Art Fair. She was a lifelong member of SS John & Paul Catholic Church.
Survivors include one foster son, Long (Dianne) Nguyen and three foster grandchildren, Daniel, Derek, and Dustin Nguyen, all of Houston, TX; two brothers, John (Dolly) Morgan of Atlanta, GA, and Paul (Cindy) Morgan of Clarinda, IA; two sisters, Mary (Raymond) Toal of Burlington, IA, and Frances (George) Eckhardt of West Orange, NJ; nieces and nephews, Rachel Morgan Walsh, Sarah Morgan Berryman, Celeste Morgan Yaluk, Emily Morgan Jones, Morgan Toal, Benjamin Toal, Elizabeth Toal Anderson, and Elizabeth Eckhardt. She is also survived by several great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
The Funeral Mass for Angela Adams will be held on Thursday, November 20, at St. Paul's Catholic Church at 10:30 a.m. Music will be provided by the Des Moines Country Resurrection Choir. Fr. Marty Goetz will be the Celebrant. Following the mass, cremation will be entrusted to Prugh Funeral Service. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery at a later time.On Wednesday, a Rosary will be recited at 3:30 p.m. at Prugh Chapel. Following that, the family will receive friends from 4:00 until 6:30 p.m. Memorials have been established for the Notre Dame Foundation and SS John & Paul Catholic Church.
