Joyce Jean Hollingsworth, age 72, of Mediapolis, died Thursday afternoon, November 1, 2012, at her home. The daughter of Delbert and Mildred Pilling Alber, she was born on November 3, 1939 in Burlington. She married Donald Hollingsworth on September 28, 1957 in Mediapolis.

Joyce graduated from Mediapolis High School in 1957 where she had been an active student in both sports and musical activities. Joyce was a homemaker for her family and yet through the years beginning in high school she worked at Thie's Market, was the first secretary for the Mediapolis New Era, was a painting contractor, a receptionist for Dr. Honson, worked at Kline's True Value, the Methodist Church, and lastly read meters for REC.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, UMW, church choir, and Sunday School teacher, the American Legion Auxiliary, IRLCA and NRLCA having served in official positions, and the Burlington Quilt Guild. She enjoyed fishing, their cabin on the river, crafting, quilting, flea markets, antiquing, and was an avid reader, and most important to her were her grandchildren and their activities.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Mildred Thie; her father, Delbert Alber, and her special grandparents, Russell & Edith Pilling.
