Kathryn “Kay” Elizabeth Hansen, 91, of Burlington, Iowa, died at Bickford Cottage, Burlington, Iowa, on Sunday evening, June 15, 2014.
Born on April 22, 1923 in Lebanon, Iowa, she was the daughter of Craig W. and Elizabeth A. Koonts Johnston. She married Roger Hansen December 27, 1943 in Wheaton, Illinois. He died on September 27, 1997.
Kathryn graduated from Cantril High School in 1940 and Burlington Hospital School of Nursing in 1944. She was an RN and worked for Burlington Visiting Nurses for 17 years, retiring in 1979.
Kay enjoyed crafts, sewing, walking, flower gardens and traveling to visit family. She was a member of the Good Earth Organic Gardening Club, Grace United Methodist Church since 1953, Homebuilders Class and Sunday School, Jane DeLano Retired Nurses, Golden Oldies. She was a RSVP Volunteer at Great River Medical Center and a member of Silver Singers, NARFE-National Active and Retired Federal Employees Chapter 433.
She is survived by one son, Peter W. (HyeSang) Hansen of Burlington, Iowa; three daughters, Jennifer K. (Paul) Champagne of Tallahassee, Florida, Marilyn A. (Robert) Lemon of Burlington, Iowa and Julie M. (Chuck) Griffin of Burlington, Iowa; one sister, Patricia Ray of Schertz, Texas; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 1 great great granddaughter; nieces and nephews. Long time care giver and friend Joyce Doyle of Burlington, IA.
She was preceded in death by her husband, 7 brothers and 3 sisters.
Funeral services for Kathryn Hansen will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Grace United Methodist Church, Burlington, Iowa. Pastor Trevor Davis and Chaplain Gwen Fratt will officiate. Interment will be at Aspen Grove Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the Grace United Methodist Church. Friends may call at Prugh’s Chapel on Friday from 9:00 until 5:00 p.m.
