Evelyn Esther Rideout, 94 of Davenport, formerly of Burlington, died at 3:05 a.m. Friday, June 6, 2003 at Fejervary Health Care Center in Davenport.

Born April 11, 1909 in Mercer, Mo., she was the daughter of Lafayette H. and Lucy Ann Reed Downing. On Feb. 21, 1941, she married Cecil Eugene Rideout in Burlington. He died Jan. 22, 2000.

Mrs. Rideout worked for J.C. Penney Co. for 25 years and was in layaway and Credit Manager.

She was a member of St. John AME Church, American Legion Auxiliary, Interfaith Council of Churches, Gideon Internationl Auxiliary and AARP.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews; several grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by four sisters and one brother.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the time of service Friday at Prugh's Chapel.

The funeral for Mrs. Rideout will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Prugh's Chapel with Pastor John Herring Sr. officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
