Arthur F. Zaiss, 92, died at Great River Medical Center on May 13, 2003 at 9:00 a.m.

Mr. Zaiss was the founder and operator of Zaiss Motor Sales for 67 years from 1936 till present. He is believed to have been in business longer than any other sole proprietor in Burlington's history and had both business and personal accounts with F&M Bank longer than any other customer.

Mr. Zaiss was active in two Presbyterian Churches. He served as a trustee, elder and fund raiser at Faith Presbyterian Church. After its merger with First Presbyterian Church, Mr. Zaiss served on that church's session and on the finance committee.

Mr. Zaiss was born on May 3, 1911, in Burlington, Iowa, the son of Rose Long Zaiss and Gustave Zaiss. On September 23, 1933, Mr. Zaiss married the former Helen Nelson.

Mr. Zaiss was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Margaret Geffers and Marie Browne. He is survived by his wife of almost 70 years, and two daughters, Shirley Z. Johnson of Washington, D.C., and Linda K. Krantz of Burlington, their respective spouses, Charles Rumph and Wayne Krantz; two grandchildren, Arthur Krantz of Kansas City and Wendy Conlee of West Burlington; their spouses, Tammy Krantz and Rob Conlee; and great grandchildren Dylan and Zachary Krantz and Nicholas and Caitlyn Conlee.

Visitation will be held Thursday, May 15, at First Presbyterian Church from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The funeral will be Friday, May 16, at 1:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church. Interment will follow immediately at Aspen Grove Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to First Presbyterian Church emergency fund for the needy in memory of Arthur F. Zaiss
