F. J. Delaney Jr.,85, of Singer Island, Fla., died Monday, April 21, 2003 at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born August 17 1917, in Memphis, Tennessee, he was the son of Frank Joseph and Eileen Bergen Delaney. On September 13, 1941 he married Mary Kathryn Sexton in Indianapolis.

Mr. Delaney was the former owner and president of Midwest Biscuit Co. He and his brother operated the company for more than 40 years following its purchase by his father in 1934 until it was sold to the Lance Co. in 1979.

Mr. Delaney graduated from Notre Dame University in South Bend, Indiana, and attended Harvard Business School in Cambridge, Mass. He was a World War II Navy veteran and served in the South Pacific. He was a past president of the Biscuit and Cracker Manufactureres Association of America. He was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church in Burlington, St. Francis of Assisi, and numerous organizations in Iowa and Florida.

Survivors include his wife, one son, Frank J. Delaney III of Burlington; one foster son, Walter R. Zachmeyer of Bettendorf; and one granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a sister.

Visitation will begin after 8 a.m. Wednesday at Prugh's Chapel, where following a family prayer service the family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

The Mass of the Resurrection for Mr. Delaney will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul's Catholic Church. Rev. Patrick Hilgendorf will be the celebrant. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Memorials have been established for the Burlington Notre Dame Foundation and the Friends of the Burlington Public Library Foundation.
