Carl H. Sheagren, 100, of Burlington Care Center, died at 12:26 p.m. Friday, February 7, 2003, at the care center.

Born February 9, 1902, in Burlington, he was the son of Carl Otto and Emma Holst Sheagren. On June 12, 1923, he married Elsie Lee Pritchard in Burlington. She died November 23, 1989.

Mr. Sheagren worked for the CB&Q Railroad Shops in West Burlington for 50 years. After retirement, he assisted his son in operating Sheagren Funeral Shome.

He attended school in Burlington and was a graduate of Elliott Business College in Burlington.

He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. He was a 66-year member of Des Moines Lodge A.F. & A.M.#1, a past Monarch of Murad Grotto, 32nd Degree Mason, St. Omer Commandry #15 Knights Templar, Iowa Chapter #1 Royal Arch Masons, Zerubbabel Council #22 R. & S.M. and the KAABA Shrine. He was a past member of Fidelis Class of Grace United Methodist Church, Railroad Veterans and Kiwanis Club of Mount Home, Arkansas. He was the last surviving member of the Toonerville Trolley Parade Piece.

Survivors include one son, James (Vera) Sheagren of Burlington; three grandsons, Craig (Cathy) Sheagren of Macomb, Illinois, Joel (Kim) Sheagren of Blaine, Minnesota, and Roger (Lynn) Sheagren of Burlington, Iowa; nine great grandchildren, Carie (Tyson) Geertz of DeWitt, Stephanie (John) Marron of Rolling Prairie, Indiana, Ben Sheagren of Chicago, Michael Sheagren and Andy Sheagren, both of Macomb, Illinois, Connor Sheagren, Eric Sheagren and Adam Sheagren, all of Burlington, and Samuel Sheagren of Blaine; three great-great-grandchildren, Robin Marron of Rolling Prairie and Danny Geertz and Laura Geertz, both of DeWitt; one niece, Pat Gerdom of Johnston, Iowa; and one nephew, Dudley Upton of Hemet, California.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by seven sisters and one granddaughter.

Friends may call after 11 a.m. today. There will be a Masonic Service at 7:00 p.m. Monday at Prugh's Chapel, following which the family will receive friends until 8:30 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. Sheagren will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Grace United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Trevor Davis officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.

Memorials have been established for Grace United Methodist Church and Shrine Crippled Children's Hospital.
