Anna Mae (Klotzbach) Lowther

Anna Mae Klotzbach Lowther, 86, of Burlington, died at 4:45 p.m. Sunday, February 2, 2003, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born June 27, 1916, in Burlington, she was the daughter of August and Anna Fiezman Klotzbach. She Married Ory John Lowther on June 12, 1942, in Corpus Christi, Texas. He died March 28, 1980.

Mrs. Lowther was a graduate of Burlington Junior College and a 1938 graduate of the University of Iowa. She was an English teacher at Burlington High School for 32 years.

She served on the boards of League of Women Voters, UNA-USA Association, Burlington Public Library (12 years), YWCA, Friends of the Library and Friends of Southeast Iowa Symphony Orchestra. She enjoyed several community groups and served in Book Club, Shakespeare Club and Burlington Bird Club. She was a life member of Iowa State Teachers Association and a member of Retired Teachers, Sierra Club, Des Moines County Historical Club CRISP, Phi Beta Kappa and Pi Lambda Theta. She enjoyed gardening and was a long time member of First United Church of Christ, where she was choir director and singer for many years.

Survivors include two sons, John Lowther of Houghton, Michigan, and Peter Lowther of Homewood, Illinois; one daughter, Priscilla Lowther of Iowa City; and five grandchildren.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by one sister and one brother.

Burial in Aspen Grove Cemetery
