Donald Alexander Davis, age 94, of Mediapolis, Iowa, died Friday afternoon, January 15, 2010, at the Prairie Ridge Care and Rehab in Mediapolis. The son of Carl and Amanda Nelson Davis, he was born on May 15, 1915, near Pulaski, Iowa. He moved with his parents to a farm east of Mediapolis in 1917 where he was raised. He married Anne Marie Terjeson on June 2, 1946, at Peace Lutheran Church in Pendleton, Oregon. She preceded him in death on August 15, 2007.

Don graduated from Huron High School and attended the Cattleman's College in Ames, Iowa. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1946 with the 567th Material Squadron on the South Pacific Island of Tinian.

Don was a life-long farmer and farmed with his wife near Yarmouth for over 60 years. He loved the land second only to God and his family. He was a life-long member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Mediapolis where he served on the Church Council, as Sunday School teacher, Sunday School superintendent, in the Church choir, and on various committees. He served as a member of the Yarmouth school board and was a member of the American Legion in Mediapolis.

He enjoyed woodworking and processed and sold walnuts in later years. Most of all, he loved and enjoyed time with his family.

His family includes a son, John and Talinda Davis of Wichita, Kansas; a daughter, Jean and John Chatelain of Omaha, Nebraska; a son, Jim and Reva Davis of Morning Sun; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three sisters, Martha Sternberg of St. Paul, Minnesota, Elaine Bailey of Pekin, Illinois, and Helen Hauser of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; and a brother, Kenny Davis of Mediapolis. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Anne; one sister, Edith Myers; and a son-in-law, Hal Bostrom.

The funeral ceremony for Don Davis will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 19, 2010, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Mediapolis, officiated by Rev. Jerleen Schlesser. Burial will follow at the Kossuth Cemetery, Mediapolis with military rites by the American Legion.

Friends may call from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday at the Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Mediapolis where the family will meet friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

A memorial fund has been established for the benefit of Immanuel Lutheran Church and the Mediapolis Community Theater.
