Gary Alan Warth, age 73, of rural Burlington, died Monday April 4, 2011 at his home. The son of Lucian and Gertrude Brimhall Warth, he was born November 26, 1937, in Burlington, Iowa. He married Susan Diane Reed on November 27, 1960, in Mediapolis. She preceded him in death on August 8, 1995. He married Barbara Metzger on November 22, 1997, in Mediapolis.

Gary graduated from Mediapolis High School in 1956. He served in the Iowa National Guard. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Mediapolis and a member of the Eagle's.

He enjoyed farming, playing cards and time with friends and family.

His family surviving includes his wife, Barbara; three sons, Kevin (Sara) Warth of West Sacramento, California, Shawn Warth of Burlington, and Mark Warth of Mediapolis; two daughters, Amy Rieckens of Iowa City and Natalie (Jonathan) Whisler of Portland, Oregon; three stepsons, Monte (Shelley) Dill of West Burlington, Steven (Abby) Dill of San Diego, California, and Gregory Dill of West Burlington; eight grandchildren, Thomas and Alyssa Rieckens, Gabriella, Juliana, and Reed Whisler, Mitchell and Elizabeth Dill, and Samuel Dill; a great-grandson, Greyson Dean; a brother, Edwin Warth of Iowa City; a sister, Lucia (Merle) Hoppenworth of Slater, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews and their families.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Susan; a daughter, Luann; a brother, Keith 'Curly'; and a sister-in-law, Melodie Warth.

Following cremation, the family will meet friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday at the Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Mediapolis.

The funeral ceremony will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 9, 2011, at the First United Methodist Church in Mediapolis, with Rev. Jeff Kodis officiating. Burial will follow at the Kossuth Cemetery in Mediapolis.

A Memorial Fund has been established for the benefit of the Great River Hospice and the First United Methodist Church.
