Richard was born December 15, 1920 in Burlington, Iowa. After high school, Richard attended the University of Iowa where he graduated with a degree in business. Later, in the early 1970's he moved the station to Merle Hay and Douglas. Richard's sons, Rick and Pat, were co-owners and managers at the service station. Since 2010, the station is located at 7425 Douglas in Urbandale.
