Burlington Hawkeye, Burlington, IA - 27 Jan. 1956, pg. 4 - Real Estate, Insurance Man - Glenn H Topping, 67, Dies of Heart Attack - Glenn Harrison Topping, 67, well known Burlington real estate and insurance man died suddenly of a heart attack Thursday at 10:40 p.m. at his home, 1000 N. Fourth St.
Topping went to bed shortly after supper after reportedly not feeling well. A doctor was called, but nothing serious was apparent at that time. Later, Topping was stricken with a massive heart attack which took his life almost instantly.
He operated the firm of J. W. Topping & Son, real estate and insurance agency. He was a past fishing and outdoor activities, including photography. Of late years, he had confined his activities to fishing and photography.
Topping was born 19 Dec 1888, in Des Moines, the son of John W & Ida (Johnson) Topping. He moved to Burlington in March 1896. Oct. 13, 1923, he married Katherine Gilbert in Burlington.
He was a member of the Crystal Lake Club, Flint Hill Club, Elks, Rotary, and the Burlington Real Estate Board.
Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Mrs. R. C. Donaldson, Tucson, AZ, and Mrs. Albert Perrotta, Paterson, NJ; three granddaughters; a brother, Clyde H Topping, Burlington, four sisters, Mrs. Daniel Upp, Evanston, IL, Mrs. Walter Metz, Burlington; Mrs. Frank Lyons, Portland, OR, Mrs. L A. Wilson, Davenport, IA; also a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents. The body is at Prugh's Chapel.
