Donald Wayne Callahan, 77, of Morning Sun, died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2007, at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.
Born June 23, 1930, in Burlington, he was the son of Fred and Vera Swanson Callahan. On May 22, 1948, he married Esther Dougherty in Garland.
Mr. Callahan was a farmer and an Amoco Fuel Agent and later a co-owner of ServiceMaster by Callahans. He graduated from Morning Sun High School in 1947. He was a member of First United Presbyterian Church at Morning Sun, having served as a deacon and elder. He was a member of Morning Sun Lions Club and was a past district governor, serving in 1989 and 1990. He was active with the Lions Blood Drive. He also was a member of Wapello Masonic Lodge, Community Betterment Committee and was a former city council member of Morning Sun.
Survivors include his wife, Esther; two sons, Adrian "Bud" Callahan of Frisco, Texas, and Dennis Callahan of LeMars; three daughters, Teresa Kessell of Baltimore, Md., Melodee Walker of Burlington, and Tamara Nelson of Morning Sun; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one brother, Larry Callahan of Chester, Mass.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one granddaughter.
Visitation with family will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Morning Sun.
The funeral for Mr. Callahan will be at 2 p.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church at Morning Sun with the Rev. Mel Miller and Ramona Wink officiating. Burial will be at a later date at the Elmwood Cemetery at Morning Sun.
