Walter James Lyons

Walter James Lyons, 72, of West Burlington died at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 10, 1999, at Brlington Medical Center.

Mr. Lyons has deeded his body to the University of Iowa. The funeral service will be held at a later date. Burial will be in National Cemetery at Arsenal Island with full military honors. The family will receive friends from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday during a potluck dinner at the home of Rick and Kathy Myers on old Highway 34 in Gulfport, Ill.

Mr. Lyons was born Feb. 12, 1927, in Trenton, the son of Walter and Alice Ridinger Lyons. He married Vera E. Boitscha Feb. 14, 1979, in Rock Island, Ill.

He was a retired warehouseman for Freeman Resin and also worked for Rick's Auto Sales. He served in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of VFW Post 7641 in New London and Machinist Union Local District 131. He was affiliated with the Protestant church.

Survivors include his wife; four sons, Michael Geren of West Columbia, Texas, Jerrold Sheil of Lakewood, Colo., Hal Geren of Burlington, and Jamie Lyons of Alva, Okla.; three daughter, Collette Olomon, Jean Walsh and Mary Rose Schmitz, all of Burlington; three sisters, Mildred Manning and Betty Lathrop, both of Fairfield, and Dorothy Griest of Mount Pleasant; 19 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, one sister, three sons and one stepdaughter.
