Michael "Mike" Dean Dunne, 41, of Burlington, died at 3:59 a.m. Thursday, July 4, 2002, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born Feb. 2, 1961, in Burlington, he was the son of Jim and JoAnn Gapen Dunne. On Nov. 7, 1992, he married Shawn M. Prier in West Burlington.

Mr. Dunne was a spot welder for General Electric for 10 years.

He was a 1979 graduate of Burlington High School and four-year sheet metal apprenticeship. He was a member of First Assembly of God Church in Burlington and a past member of Sheet Metal Workers Union 91 of Rock Island, Ill. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, the river and boating. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR, and his favorite driver was Bill Elliott.

Survivors include his wife; his father of Kirkwood, Ill.; one sister, Pam Dunne of Kirkwood; one brother, Mark Dunne of Burlington; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother and grandparents.

Visitation will begin after 9 a.m. Sunday at Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. Dunne will be at 10 a.m. Monday at First Assembly of God Church, with Pastor Terry Terrell officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.

A memorial has been established.
