Wayne Cross, 56, of Mount Pleasant, formerly of Middletown, died Wednesday, July 4, 2007, in the emergency room of the Henry County Health Center in Mount Pleasant.

Wayne T. Cross, 56, of Mount Pleasant, formerly of Middletown, died Wednesday, July 4, 2007, at Henry County Health Center.

Born Dec. 14, 1950, in Burlington, he was the son of Norbert and Ruby Fry Cross. He married Donna Whited. They divorced. On April 28, 1978, he married Diane Ray. She preceded him in death on June 17, 1999. On Jan. 12, 2001, he married Nancy Landes.

Mr. Cross was a computer comptroller for J.I. Case and later a computer technician for Federal Mogul. After retiring, he worked for Time Out Sports Bar in Mount Pleasant. He served in the Navy during the Vietnam War. He was a 1969 graduate of Burlington High School.

He was a fan of Jeff Gordon and NASCAR racing. He enjoyed golfing, fishing and working in his yard. He liked the weather and took classes in meteorology to learn about weather patterns.

Survivors include his wife of Mount Pleasant; his mother of Burlington; three sons, Chris Cross of West Des Moines, Tom Cross of Ala., and Terry Landes II of Omaha, Neb.; three daughters, Diana Bragg of Gladstone, Ill., Barbara Klein of Mount Pleasant and Angie Williams of Denmark; five brothers, Raymond Cross of California, Denny Cross of Danville, Burton Cross of Chariton, Paul Cross of Mount Pleasant and Jack Cross of Middletown; five sisters, Nancy Burkett of Burlington, Reva Davis of Morning Sun, Becky Cutts of Peoria, Ill., Lora Cross of San Clemente, Calif., and Terri Gordy of Danville; and 10 grandchildren.

Besides his second wife, he was preceded in death by his father and two brothers.

The funeral for Mr. Cross will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel. Burial with full military rites will be in Middletown Cemetery.
