Edith Lucille Beckman, 86, of Dodgeville, Iowa, died at Great River Hospice House on Friday, May 27, 2011 at 10:57 a.m.

Born on October 22, 1924 in Liberty Community of Panhandle, Texas, she was the daughter of Charles and Inez Jackson Raef. She married Joseph Thomas Beckman on June 22, 1950 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Dodgeville, Iowa. He died August 27, 2005.

Edith was a clerk typist in the Ordnance Department at Pantex Ordnance Plant, Panhandle, Texas. When that plant closed she was transferred to Cactus Ordnance Works in Cactus, Texas and worked there until it closed.

She was a homemaker, enjoyed the outdoors and helped Joe with the farming. She belonged to the St. Mary's Golden Age Group and K of C's Ladies Auxiliary. She was an avid Cardinals baseball fan and reader. She enjoyed boat rides, dancing with her husband, word puzzles and loved playing dominoes. Watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her great joy and they always asked about Grandma Edie.

She is survived by two sons, Joseph Timothy (Brenda) Beckman of Phoenix, AZ and Gary Robert (Joan) Beckman of Iowa City, IA; one daughter, Sandra K. (Fredric) Henderson of West Des Moines, IA; eight grandchildren, Kimberly (Greg) Crawford, Nathan (Sage) Beckman, Trenton (Lisa) Beckman, Jasen (Jo Ann) Beckman, Christanna (Kyle) Newman, David Beckman, Matthew Henderson and Katie Henderson; nine great-grandchildren, Ryan, Connor, Brodie, Emily, Cole, Mason, Chloe, Annie, and Autumn; four sisters, Anna Lewter of Baker City, OR, Ruby Gabel of Amarillo, TX, Pearl Berres of Lubbock, TX and Opal (Leonard) Walterscheid of Hereford, TX, sister-in-laws Bernardina Raef of Chula Vista, CA and Georgia Raef of Little Rock, AR; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, four infant sons, six brothers, twin granddaughters and one great-granddaughter.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Edith Lucille Beckman will be held on Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Dodgeville, Iowa. Celebrant will be Fr. David Steinle. Interment will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, Dodgeville, Iowa.

A Rosary Service will be recited in Prugh's Chapel at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday
evening followed by the family receiving friends until 7:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established for St. Mary's Cemetery of Dodgeville Perpetual Care Fund.
